Reading Don Quixote Together

**No literature lecture. No final answers. More like: Come along. Have a look.**

I read selected passages from Cervantes‘ *Don Quixote* — the funny ones, the surprising ones, the sometimes completely absurd ones. And then we look together at what is hiding inside them.

Because *Don Quixote* isn’t just a very old book. It is full of characters, situations and ideas that can suddenly feel remarkably close to our own lives:

How do we deal with reality?

What happens when someone refuses to simply accept the world as it is?

And why can someone who is obviously doing completely crazy things still tell us something very true about ourselves?

I’m not interested in providing the one correct interpretation. Quite the opposite: we look together for the moments when the text starts to move.

**Read, discover, laugh, think.**

The reading lasts around 60–70 minutes. Afterwards, there is time to talk and discuss — the passages we’ve read, the characters, and of course the question of what this old novel still has to do with us today.

The humour helps. 

The slapstick makes it easy to get started. And sometimes a laugh is exactly what leads us to a really good question.

Maybe that’s the nicest way to encounter a classic:

Not by explaining it.

But by going inside it together.
